Barnum and Bridgeport: A brand struggling to stay relevant

“Unlike equally well-known residents of other cities, who are famous simply for being born there, P.T. Barnum was truly an icon and an integral part of this community,” said Yohuru Williams, an associate professor of history at Fairfield University. “As a former mayor, business owner, entertainer, legislator, entrepreneur and philanthropist, he exercised such a tremendous influence over the social, economic and political landscape of this city that he remains deeply embedded in Bridgeport culture.”
