3-D printing: Anything you can dream jumps into three dimensions

I was surprised that the 3-D printer I saw in the basement of the Fairfield University School of Engineering in Connecticut actually looked like, well, a printer. Here was a machine straight out of science fiction that could make three-dimensional copies of small parts, in plastic, and it resembled nothing more than a 10X version of the HP I had at home.
